About THRVE
Designing the conditions for people to live, age, and belong.
THRVE is a regenerative ageing, design, research, and community-development practice founded by Andrea Leja.
The work connects the human experience of home with the wider systems, environments, and communities that shape how people live over time.
Meet Andrea Leja
Andrea Leja is a regenerative ageing developer, research contributor, and interior and spatial designer working at the intersection of housing, health systems, community infrastructure, and the built environment.
She is the founder of THRVE Lifestyle & Development Group Inc. and the originator of EverWell™, a regenerative ageing community prototype under development in Niagara, Ontario.
Andrea’s work is grounded in a central belief: the environments people experience every day can either support or limit how they live, adapt, connect, and age.
Through THRVE, she brings together design, research, strategy, and collaboration to help translate that belief into practical homes, community models, and development pathways.
The Evolution of THRVE
THRVE began with the intimate scale of home
Through interior and spatial design, Andrea explored how light, materials, nature, movement, organization, and sensory experience affect daily wellbeing.
Over time, the same questions expanded:
What happens when a home no longer supports a changing life?
How do neighbourhoods affect independence and belonging?
What role does housing play in health?
How might communities be designed differently for longer lives?
Those questions led THRVE from individual interiors toward regenerative ageing, applied research, community development, and systems-level thinking.
The scale of the work has grown, but its foundation remains the same: design begins with understanding how life is actually experienced.
From Interiors to Regenerative Ageing
Interior design remains an important part of THRVE because the home is where larger ideas become personal.
Accessibility, ageing in place, wellbeing, dignity, independence, and connection are not abstract concepts. They are experienced through entrances, kitchens, bathrooms, lighting, circulation, storage, materials, and the ability to move through daily life with confidence.
Regenerative ageing expands this thinking beyond a single home.
It considers how housing, health, wellness, nature, social connection, care, and community infrastructure can work together to support capacity and participation throughout a longer life.
THRVE connects these two scales: the spaces people inhabit and the systems surrounding them.
How the Work Comes Together
THRVE works across three connected scales.
Home
Interior and spatial design that supports comfort, function, adaptability, wellbeing, and ageing in place.
Community
Development and advisory work that brings together housing, wellness, social infrastructure, care, nature, and belonging.
Systems
Research, publication, partnership, and strategy addressing the wider structures that shape ageing and community life.
Each scale informs the others.
Insights from the home help shape community models. Research strengthens design decisions. Development work creates opportunities to test and apply new ideas.
Together, they form one integrated THRVE practice.
EverWell™
EverWell™ is the clearest applied expression of THRVE’s work.
The model brings together housing, wellness, care, social connection, nature, research, and the built environment within a regenerative ageing community framework.
Currently under development in Niagara, EverWell™ is being designed as both a community prototype and a Living Lab.
It allows THRVE’s research, design principles, community-development thinking, and partnership work to be explored through a real-world model.
EverWell™ is intended not only to support one community, but to create knowledge that can inform future communities and regional adaptation.
Research + Global Contribution
Andrea contributes to the Global Wellness Institute Aging Well Initiative, bringing a Canadian perspective on housing innovation, healthcare integration, ageing policy, and the built environment.
Through THRVE’s Master Publication, she is developing a connected body of research examining how longer lives are shaped by housing, health systems, social infrastructure, design, and community conditions.
This work supports EverWell™ while also contributing to a wider conversation about how ageing can be understood and addressed differently.
Andrea’s role is to help bridge global research, regional realities, design practice, and lived implementation.
Rooted in Niagara, Designed for Wider Relevance
Rooted in Niagara, Designed for Wider Relevance
THRVE’s work is being developed within the particular realities of Niagara, Ontario.
The region reflects many of the challenges and opportunities shaping communities across Canada: an ageing population, housing pressure, changing care needs, existing neighbourhoods, development constraints, and a desire to preserve local character while preparing for the future.
Working locally allows THRVE to remain connected to lived experience, community knowledge, municipal realities, and regional partnerships.
The lessons developed through EverWell™, applied research, and community collaboration are intended to contribute to models that can be adapted beyond Niagara.
Values That Guide the Work
01
Human Experience First
Design and strategy begin with how people actually live, feel, move, adapt, and connect.
02
Beauty and Function Together
Accessible and supportive environments should also feel elegant, desirable, and deeply human.
03
Research With Purpose
Evidence should inform practical decisions, not remain separated from everyday life.
04
Connection Across Systems
Housing, health, care, design, wellness, and community cannot be addressed effectively in isolation.
05
Long-Term Thinking
Good environments must support current needs while remaining adaptable to future change.
06
Collaboration Over Silos
The strongest models emerge when disciplines, sectors, communities, and lived experience work together.
Collaboration + Leadership
THRVE works with homeowners, developers, municipalities, researchers, healthcare and ageing organizations, educational institutions, community groups, funders, and professional teams.
Andrea’s role varies according to the work.
She may serve as a designer, strategist, research contributor, project originator, facilitator, advisor, or collaborative partner.
Across these roles, she helps connect people and ideas that are often separated, creating a clearer path between vision, evidence, development, and lived experience.
THRVE welcomes thoughtful collaboration with people and organizations working toward better homes, stronger communities, and more supportive conditions for longer lives.
THRVE began with a close understanding of how environments affect everyday life.
Today, that work extends from interiors to communities, from research to implementation, and from individual needs to the systems shaping longer lives.
The purpose remains clear:
To design better conditions for people to live, age, and belong.
