EverWell™

A Regenerative Ageing Community Prototype.

A lifestyle-centred community model integrating housing, wellness, care, social connection, research, and the built environment. Designed to support longer lives, changing needs, and stronger connections between people, place, and community.

A Community Model for Living Well, Longer

EverWell™ is more than a housing development. It is THRVE’s regenerative ageing community model, designed to bring together adaptable homes, wellness, nature, social connection, research, and community life.

At THRVE, regenerative ageing means creating the conditions that help people continue to live well as life changes.

EverWell™ applies that idea at community scale. Rather than treating ageing primarily as a care challenge, the model explores how housing, shared spaces, services, programmes, nature, and community can work together to support changing needs, abilities, and life transitions.

The goal is to support independence, dignity, connection, participation, purpose, and choice throughout a longer life.

EverWell™ is also designed as a Living Lab, creating opportunities to learn from residents, researchers, practitioners, and partners over time so the model can adapt, improve, and generate practical insight.

A Community Designed for Longer Lives

The Niagara prototype is being explored as an integrated community combining adaptable housing, shared amenities, nature, wellness, support, and opportunities for participation.

Potential elements may include:

  • adaptable and universally designed homes

  • a range of housing types and tenure options

  • walking routes, gardens, and nature-connected spaces

  • wellness, movement, and preventative-health facilities

  • shared community rooms and gathering places

  • a café or community market

  • spaces for learning, creativity, and contribution

  • intergenerational activities

  • research and educational partnerships

  • flexible access to changing levels of care and support

The final mix will evolve through research, feasibility work, partnerships, technical study, municipal consultation, and future design development.

Why a Different Model Is Needed

People are living longer, but many homes, neighbourhoods, and support systems were not designed for longer lives.

Housing, healthcare, community services, wellness, transportation, and social connection are often planned separately, even though they shape the same daily experience.

This fragmentation can make it harder for people to remain independent, connected, and supported as their circumstances change.

EverWell™ responds by bringing these elements together from the beginning.

The model asks a different question:

What kind of community would help people live well throughout a longer life?

The EverWell™ Framework

EverWell™ is organized around the understanding that wellbeing is shaped by more than housing alone.

The model integrates several interconnected elements:

01
Homes That Adapt

Housing designed to support changing needs, greater accessibility, and the possibility of ageing in place.

02
Health and Wellness

Daily opportunities for movement, prevention, nourishment, restoration, and access to appropriate support.

03
Connection and Belonging

Shared spaces, programmes, and community rhythms that help relationships form naturally.

04
Nature and the Built Environment

Walkable landscapes, biophilic design, natural light, outdoor access, and environments that support physical and emotional wellbeing.

05
Integrated Support

A flexible approach to care, services, technology, and community resources that can evolve with residents over time.

06
Research and Learning

A Living Lab framework that allows ideas, programmes, environments, and outcomes to be studied and improved.

Together, these elements form a regenerative ageing model designed around the whole experience of living.

Housing Designed for Changing Lives

The home is the foundation of the EverWell™ model.

Residences are envisioned to support comfort, accessibility, independence, and everyday ease without feeling clinical or institutional.

Design principles may include:

  • adaptable and universally designed layouts

  • accessible entrances and circulation

  • main-floor and single-level living options

  • natural light and connection to outdoor space

  • flexible rooms that can change over time

  • thoughtful lighting, acoustics, materials, and storage

  • opportunities for both privacy and community connection

  • housing options that respond to different households and life stages

The goal is not simply to make homes accessible.

It is to create homes that remain beautiful, functional, and supportive as life evolves.

Wellness, Care + Community Life

EverWell™ is designed around prevention, participation, and connection.

Wellness is not treated as a separate programme or destination. It is woven into daily life through walkable surroundings, access to nature, opportunities for movement, nourishing food, social connection, creativity, learning, and restorative spaces.

Care is approached in the same way. Support may become available gradually and flexibly as needs change, helping residents remain connected to familiar homes, relationships, routines, and community life.

Shared spaces and programmes are intended to create natural opportunities for people to meet, participate, contribute, and build relationships across generations.

The aim is not simply to help people remain in place. It is to create the conditions for people to remain active, supported, recognized, and meaningfully involved throughout a longer life.

EverWell™ as a Living Lab

A physical therapy or medical consultation in a wellness center with a scenic outdoor view of a garden and pond.

EverWell™ is being developed as more than a community.

It is also envisioned as a Living Lab where residents, researchers, students, professionals, and community partners can explore how environments affect health, ageing, connection, and quality of life.

The Living Lab may support:

  • applied research

  • resident-informed design

  • programme testing and evaluation

  • student and faculty engagement

  • built-environment research

  • healthy-ageing initiatives

  • technology and service innovation

  • measurement of social, health, and wellbeing outcomes

  • continuous learning and improvement

Research would not sit apart from community life.

It would help strengthen how the community is designed, operated, and adapted over time.

Connected to the Wider Community

EverWell™ is not intended to operate as an isolated residential enclave.

The Niagara prototype is being explored as part of the wider life of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

While some spaces, services, and programmes may primarily support residents, selected elements could also create broader community value.

These may include:

  • connections to walking routes and landscaped outdoor spaces

  • educational and wellness programmes

  • community events, workshops, and learning opportunities

  • a café or community market

  • partnerships with local organizations

  • intergenerational activities

  • research, student, and knowledge-sharing opportunities

  • selected gathering spaces and community rooms

The goal is to explore how EverWell™ can contribute to the surrounding community while preserving the privacy, safety, and daily needs of residents.

The exact public-facing elements will depend on planning, feasibility, partnerships, operations, and consultation.

Responding to a Real Niagara Need

Niagara-on-the-Lake is experiencing many of the demographic and housing pressures affecting communities across Canada, including an ageing population, changing household needs, limited housing options, caregiver pressures, and increasing demand for environments that support longer lives.

EverWell™ is being developed in response to these conditions and to the need for more adaptable, connected, and preventative community models.

Where the Work Stands

EverWell™ is currently in its early development and partnership-building stage.

Current work includes:

  • research and Living Lab blueprint development

  • preliminary site and feasibility exploration

  • professional and community-partner engagement

  • development of the Niagara prototype

  • refinement of the operating, housing, wellness, and public-benefit model

EverWell™ is not a completed or approved development. The concept will continue to evolve through research, professional study, municipal consultation, feasibility work, and partnership development.

DISCUSS AN EVERWELL™ PARTNERSHIP

Collaboration with Niagara College HAWIC

A group of people having a discussion around a table with architectural plans and samples in a sunlit room with large windows and interior design pictures on the wall.

THRVE is collaborating with Niagara College’s Healthy Aging and Wellness Innovation Centre (HAWIC) to support the research and development of the EverWell™ model.

Building Better Conditions for Longer Lives

EverWell™ begins with a simple belief:

The places we create can help people remain connected, supported, and engaged throughout a longer life.

By bringing together housing, wellness, care, nature, research, and community, EverWell™ offers a new framework for how we might live and age differently.

The work is still evolving, and collaboration is central to what comes next.
